Published in 1976, the “Address to the Proletarians and Young Arab and Israeli Revolutionaries Against War and for the Proletarian Revolution” is thought to be the first manifesto jointly drafted by a gathering of Arabs and Israelis.

Mustapha Khayati, one of it’s authors, had been a member of the Situationist International. Following May 1968, he resigned from the SI and traveled to Jordan to join the Palestinian struggle. Later on Khayati and his comrades formed the “first and last Arab councilist group” in Beirut. Their efforts to think through the possibilities of revolution in the Arab world and of a revolutionary solution to the question of Palestine remain instructive today.

“The only program worthy of the Arab and Israeli proletariat and their allies is that of the destruction of the capitalist order and the construction, on its ruins, of a revolutionary society where the total liberation of each individual is the condition for the total liberation of all.”

S. Prasad is an independent researcher based in New York. Their work focuses on global class struggles and has been published by Endnotes, The Brooklyn Rail and Ill Will.
